xilolee got a reaction from pguido in Mancato funzionamento delle notifiche app Windows 8.1

How to run an elevated command prompt for Windows vista/seven users
- click start, all programs, accessories, right-click the command prompt in the list and click run as administrator, click yes on the user account control window that should appear
- click start, type cmd in the searchbox, right-click the cmd in the list of results and click run as administrator, click yes on the user account control window that should appear
- click start, type cmd in the searchbox, press and keep pressed ctrl + shift Keys on your keyboard, then press enter, click yes on the user account control window that should appear
Download and run System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [May 2014]
Then, from an elevated command prompt, launch sfc /scannow, wait till it finishes (15-50 minutes), remember/copy the final message (because later I'd like to see it posted here).
Then launch this command: copy %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log %userprofile%\desktop\CheckSUR.txt && copy %SYSTEMROOT%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt && findstr /c:"[SR]" %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt > %userprofile%\desktop\SR.txt After it, you'll find three files on your desktop: checkSUR.txt, cbs.txt and SR.txt.
Post here the checkSUR.txt, the sr.txt and the final message of the SFC tool.
If the command won't work, try these:
copy %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log %userprofile%\desktop\CheckSUR.txt copy %SYSTEMROOT%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt findstr /c:"[SR]" %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt > %userprofile%\desktop\SR.txt -

I'll try to be simplier:
1) Open an elevated command prompt: right-click on Windows 8.1 start, click command prompt (admin)
2) In the black screen that appears, type sfc /scannow (and press enter on your keyboard).
3) Wait until it finishes (15-50 minutes)
4) Check the final result (note it down).
5) If it says no integrity violations (or something similar), stop here and skip all the following points
6) Otherwise (integrity violations found) restart your machine and relaunch the tool (re-read point 1, 2, 3, 4).
7) Then, report both final results here.
8) If both results says that there are damaged files and it can not restore them, post here the CBS.log file, that should be inside C:\Windows\Logs\CBS.
You can upload it here using the forum feature or you can use a website where you could upload files, like as an example speedyshare.com.

1) Delete CBS.log inside C:\Windows\Logs\CBS
2) Note: windows installation/repair cd could be necessary.
Launch sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt, wait until it finishes (15-50 minutes), check the final result (note it down).
If it says no integrity violations (or something similar), stop here... Otherwise restart your machine and relaunch the tool. Then, report both final results here.
3) If both results says that there are damaged files and it can not restore them, post here the CBS.log file (upload it using the forum feature or a website where you could upload files).

Or you aren't updating your OS when Microsoft releases new updates (otherwise I think your machine could have not installed that patch/hotfix), or the problem could be that VPN software isn't compatible with Windows 8/8.1:
Or both of them.
Glad you solved it!

xilolee reacted to UCanFixIt in How to Enable "God Mode" in Win 7, 8, and 8.1
Hello all,
This is a fairly well-known option but I thought I would post the "how-to" just in case you didn't know about it.
This simple procedure will create a Gode Mode Icon on your desktop that allows you to browse almost every available option on your computer.
How to activate:
1. Create a new folder on your desktop - see image1
2. Right click and rename the folder exactly as shown below (you can cut and paste the correct rename from below) - see image2
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
3. Once renamed, that folder icon will "immediately" change to a God Mode icon - see image3
4. Click the new icon and browse all of your available options that are now categorized for easy viewing - see image4
Comment: This option essentially provides an alternative way to view and access virtually every option available in Control Panel without the need for continual navigation.
Hope you like it!

xilolee reacted to garioch7 in error on system restoring
Did you try booting into Safe Mode and restoring from there; or, better, booting from a Windows Startup Repair disk? Anti-virus apps are well known to cause System Restore failures. In Safe Mode, your anti-virus app should not load.
Hope this helps. Have a great day.

xilolee reacted to garioch7 in Laptop running very slow
Colin:
Your laptop has very limited capabilities: 500 MB RAM and an old Pentium processor. New programs and websites are much more complex, which increases the load on the computer. You say that your antivirus comes up clean, but there are lots of PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) that can quickly clutter up a computer. You should try running adwcleaner and junk removal tool (google them). They are free. In addition, I recommend a good antimalware solution, like Malwarebytes Antimalware. Not all antivirus and antimalware programs are the same, so make sure that you have a good a/v solution. You can try also optimizing your hard disk, and uninstalling unnecessary programs. Clear out your temp files. You can also run sfc /scannow and chkdsk from elevated command prompts to ensure that there aren't some Windows or disk issues bogging the laptop down.
Hope this helps. Have a great day.

-Phil

xilolee got a reaction from Jayzx in Freezing and Missing
Hi jaizx.
You can try to launch sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt (it lasts about 20-40 min, usually).
If you have used Wcare365 system tuneup - startup manager, you could find the removed entries inside the records tab (startup, services, records).
[charms bar is the Windows 8/8.1 bar, on the right side of the display... Usually.]
