  1. Thanks for the reply Phil,

I would also really consider to check it first before spending on repairs.

Glad I know someone who can help in opening and checking the computer.

If ever there was nothing wrong with placement of HDD and the problem still occurring, should I recommend my friend replacing the computer?
My friend told me that the laptop is 5-6 years old now.

Thanks again, Have a great day also :)

  2. Does anyone know anything about it?  A solution perhaps?

    Opening the computer(laptop) displays:

    "A disk read error occurred.

    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart."

-have tried rebooting using Ctrl+Alt+Del and power button (plugged and unplugged) with the problem still occurring continuously.

Did some research about it and read in some random forums that the 2 main cause of this is the os or hdd.

OS corrupted. (fix: recovery or re-installation)

HDD not connected properly. (fix: open computer and place correctly)

    .

    .

I don't know what the exact problem is but I think it's the HDD.

It had fallen before, a very light fall actually.

I haven't done anything just incase there is a better and safe solution.

I feared re-installation will format computer and opening computer might set more critical problems.

    NOTE:

-this is my friend's pc problem. (Acer, Windows 7)

    -there is no installation disk.

  3. Oh, it was the first time I faced BSOD in all my computer experience.

    .

Every occuring blue screens that crashes the whole system and restarts the pc is be considered BSOD?

I had that experience, all blue screen but no text display, I don't know if it's BSOD and restarting because there is nothing displayed so I pressed the power button off to shut it down myself.

  4. How about Defrag and Optimization?

    How old is your computer?

2.80Ghz is not bad but physical memory is "510 MB", too slow to run (most) basic ms apps. Hard disk drive memory is also low. I recommend adding up more memories for both? or a new pc with a newer ver. of windows, fast processor, high ram and hdd instead? up to you.

Personally, i think dell is a little old.

After a few years your computer and it's os, ram, and hdd will belong to the museum.

  5. Also for pc speedup:

    1. Startup Programs- disable programs that runs on startup, any program unimportant, leave anti-viruses enabled.

    2. Wise Care 365- "a clean pc is a fast pc"

    3. Remove/uninstall un-used programs or rarely used programs.

    4. Virus, malware, spyware, etc. scan and removal.

  6. Yes. None of those are solutions to my problem. I don't change settings in gc, do not use proxy and never change rules in windows firewall, they are as they were working fine before. I only have Windows Defender as my anti-virus (which i think don't interfere) and have checked for malwares but none.

May it be because there is a problem with my modem or ISP?

Now I'm experiencing the same with Firefox Aurora and Opera. Web pages not loading or doesn't load correctly (sometimes takes a while before it loads).

  7. @ Jayzx,

You said 'I recently just updated from windows 8 to 8.1 before updating wise care'. I think there are many junk files that wise care 365 need more time to clean.

When you finished cleaning, this number must be very large.

    Right?

    attachicon.gif1.jpg

yes, but it should be cleared after a clean. well it's been days now and still the same..

My overall "windows system" scan shows 1-4 MB useless files. sometimes after scanning it shows in "junk files created by windows" (no junk files) but when cleaning it still takes as long as a minute at it before moving to the others.

It either takes long or just stops for a minute there.

    Is there a fix?
