What is the registry?

 

The Windows Registry is a hierarchical database that stores configuration settings and options on Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains settings for low-level operating system components and for applications running on the platform that have opted to use the registry. The kernel, device drivers, services, SAM, user interface and third party applications can all make use of the registry. Why do I need to clean the registry?

 

Because when you install an application, new registry entries will be created. These entries should automatically be deleted when you uninstall the application. Unfortunately, it does not always work that way. Sometimes, you will find that some applications fail to remove their own registry entries. These entries then become obsolete. 

 

Over time, the Windows Registry begins to hold data that are invalid and obsolete. This invalid data eventually accumulates in the Registry, slowing Windows down, compromising PC performance and causing other problems.

 

So, to keep your computer in top performance, it is recommended that you periodically clean your Windows registry.

Why does it take so long to backup the registry when I click the backup button?

 

When you click the "Backup" button, a full backup file of registry will be created. Because this is a backup of your entire registry, the longer of the using time and more procedure installed in system, the more time it will take to back up the registry.

Why doesn't Wise Registry Cleaner check all empty registry keys?

 

Because some empty keys are useful and necessary and Windows or other applications need these keys. E.g. under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT most of the empty keys are useful. If you remove these empty keys, some files could not be opened. So, Wise Registry Cleaner just checks part of registry for empty keys

How to customize scanning items?

 

If you want to scan/clean a part of items, you can customize it.
1, Run Wise Registry Cleaner
2, Click "Custom Area" in the lower left corner
3, In the pop-up window, select or deselect item

4, Click "OK" to save settings.

How to export scanning records

 

Wise Registry Cleaner supports export feature, you use it to export the scanning record.
1, Run Wise Registry Cleaner
2, Click "Scan" button to scan registry
3, when the scanning is completed, right click on any item
4, Click "Export to…"
5, Select a folder to save report
6, Click "Save"

How to back up/restore registry

 

1, Back up
Wise Registry Cleaner has two modes to back up registry – auto and manual.
1) Auto back up
Every time you run wise registry cleaner to clean registry, it will automatically backup the registry items which will be deleted. It is a default settings. You can change it in Settings.
But we recommend, do not change this setting.

 

2) Manual back up
You can create a full registry backup manually.
Click Backup->Create a full registry backup

 

2, Restore
If you want to restore registry, click Restore to open restore center->select a record->click Restore button

Where is my registry backup file?

 

1, Win xp:

Click Start->Run-> type %appdata%\Wise Registry Cleaner\Backup, then click OK

 

2, Win 7/vista:
Click Start->type %appdata%\Wise Registry Cleaner\Backup in search box, then press Enter

3, Win 8/8.1
Press Win+R to open the Run window, then type %appdata%\Wise Registry Cleaner\Backup, click OK

How to uninstall a WiseCleaner program?

 

Some users email to us for the same question:
User: why no uninstall program on Start menu?
Wise: Because we don’t want you to uninstall wise cleaner.   

 

There are 3 ways to uninstall wise cleaner safely: (take Wise Registry Cleaner for example)
1, Uninstallation program on installation directory
First, open the installation directory. Its default location is:
    (x64 OS), C:\Program Files (x86)\Wise\Wise Registry Cleaner
    (x86 OS), C:\Program Files\Wise\Wise Registry Cleaner
If you don’t know, you can right click on Wise Registry Cleaner desktop icon, click Open file location to open installation directory.
Second, find out the program 'unins000.exe' and run it. It will remove wise registry cleaner automatically.

 

2, Windows Control Panel
You can use Control Panel to uninstall any programs installed on the system.
Win XP:
Click Start->Settings->Control panel->Add or Remove Programs
Win 7/vista:
Click Start->Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features
Win 8/8.1:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features

 

3, Wise Program Uninstaller
Run wise program uninstaller, find out wise registry cleaner, and then click Safe Uninstall to uninstall it.

Does Wise Registry Cleaner can optimize my SSD?

 

The answer is yes. In System Tuneup tab, there are 5 optimization options for SSD:
    Disable defrag system drive on boot to increase working life of SSD
    Disable auto defrag when idle to increase working life of SSD
    Disable SuperFetch parameters to increase working life of SSD
    Disable prefetch parameters to increase working life of SSD
    Enable TRIM function to improve working performance of SSD

The removable disk Auto Play/Auto Run problem

 

Windows has a feature, when you plug a removable disk or insert a disc, system will pop up a window to prompt the user what action to take. It means Auto Run or Auto Play. (Learn more about Auto Play/Auto Run in Wikipedia)

 

But it is dangerous, some virus/malwares can use this feature to run itself. So, Wise Registry Cleaner/Wise Care 365 will disable the Autoplay feature for removable disk.

 

If you really want to run this feature, you can restore default settings to enable it.
1, Run Wise Registry Cleaner/Wise Care 365
2, Select System Tuneup tab
3, Click System Default button in the lower right corner
4, Deselect "Disable the ‘Autoplay’ feature on drives to avoid virus infection/propagation"
5, Click Optimize and reboot system.
