Vanished External Hard Drive

My 1 TB Seagate Goflex external drive has stopped working.

It does not now appear in the list of storage devices (Drive K;)

I have a second, My Passport, External Drive which is still working ok.

Tried the Seatool fo Windows, it failed on two tests:

"SHORT DST - Fail"

"LONG GENERIC - Fail"

I have no idea what these mean, nor what to do next.

I have tried unplugging and trying different USB ports to no avail, the led on drive is still on.

Can anyone help?

Do you have used the "Fix All" function?

My suggestion is seeking help from the Hard Drive providers.

Thanks for response.

Have tried all the suggested fixes on the Self-Help Seagate Website, to no avail - drive still not present in Device Manager.

Is this what you mean by trying the  "Fix All" function, not sure what you mean.

I'm not sure that we are using the same SeaTool for Windows.

Yes, that's the one I used, it failed on both the ShortDST & Long Generic tests.

I also tried the tools on my other 'my Passport' External HD, it passed on all.

 

Now very worried that I may have lost years of personal research.

Please read SeaTool help files on page 7 "F. Summary of Results and Viewing the Logs". If you cannot understand it, please seek help from Seagate.
