Hi! Please try the 2 methods below:

Method 1: Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)

Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe). To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open an administrative Command Prompt window.
  2. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press Enter.
  3. After the scan is finished, try to install updates again.
Method 2: Remove any incorrect Registry values

Remove any incorrect values that may exist in the Registry. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then type regedit in the Start Search box.
  2. In the Programs list, click regedit.exe.
  3. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS
  4. Right-click COMPONENTS.
  5. Click Export.
  6. In the File Name box, type COMPONENTS.
  7. In the Save in box, click Desktop, click Save, and then save the file to your desktop.
  8. In the details pane, right-click PendingXmlIdentifier, and then click Delete. If this value does not exist, go to the next step.
  9. In the details pane, right click NextQueueEntryIndex, and then click Delete. If this value does not exist, go to the next step.
  10. In the details pane, right click AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving, and then click Delete. If the value does not exist, go to the next step.
  11. Restart the computer.
  12. Try to install the updates again.

Hallo Oliver,

If the methods above did not work, please try this:

1. Click Start, and then type services in the Start Search box.

2. Double-click at “Windows Update”.

3. In the properties panel, please make sure the “startup type” is “automatic” and the “start” button is grey.

4. Click OK to save the change.

5. Restart your computer.

The pic below is for your reference.

Again thank you very much for your advice.

-I ran Malwarebytes anti malware and spyhunter and removed any dangerous entries

- the sfc /scannow procedure and restart brought no improvements

-Yes I tried the right click in d the regedit window (left window and right window) and didn´t find the entries you´ve posted

- services procedure I checked as you descibed. I changed entry fom "automatic (with delay)" to "automatic". "start" buttun was grey as you showd in screenshot above

-Microsoft security essentials also cannot be updated

the feeling grows that I´m not master in my house. I think about reinstalling the system, but it´s always such a big piece of work.
