Basic PC problems including freezing

My computor is suffering fronm a host of problems which I perceive to be mainly old age. However, I am financially unable to purchase anything new as I am currently unemployed and my wife is the current breadwinner in our household so if I can ease the financial burden of strain in many areas of our life I would like to think I am doing my bit
