WD USB external HD won't partition and format

Recommended Posts

Several years ago someone tried to hack into my system. They succeeded in getting into

my external WD 465GB HD - which had been set up as (4) logical NTSF drives;ie,I,J,K,L.

now that I am trying to restore this HD I can not. Both Aoemei and Easus partition programs

state that I have too many "Bad sectors at the beginning of the disk.I have tried using

the "CLEAN" command in DISKPART but it has not helped.

I have tried using the "wipe Disk" command in both Aoemei and Easus - but it would take

(20) days to completely wipe the 465GB drive??!!

please HELP - this is driving me nuts,I can't let my computer be devoted to a disk wipe operation for 20 days.

Retlaw05:  Welcome to the Wise Care Forum.  I would recommend that you go to the Western Digital website.  Under Support, you will find Downloads.  Download the appropriate WD diagnostics program for your particular external HD and run the Extended Scan.  It will take a few hours to run on a 500 GB external drive and should either fix and/or identify any hardware problems with your external hard drive.

Hope this helps.  Let us know how you make out.  Have a great day.

Regards,

-Phil
