it takes a long time trying to do windows update, but it doesn't finish

What happens when it doesn't finish? Do you get an error code or a message? I have many things you can try but I need the error code to make a targeted suggestion.

Various reasons why this can happen. You can try refreshing your computer system and run the updates again. For steps on how to do it, try the link below and hopefully it will work for you also. It fixed my problem when I was stuck with 12% of the update.
