XP help and support service won't open

I opened the control panel and went to Adminstrative tools > component services and it is something completely new to me. I checked it and help and support does indicate automatic and started. I clicked restart but no change. I should mention that this featuure only fails to operate when I click it from the start menu. When I click it in a program that I'm running it does work. Thanks. -

Hi Xi, thanks. I use sfc /scannow regularly and no, it didn't restore the help and support function. -
