To xilolee: Suggested fix did not work. Got error message that repair could not be completed. Any other suggestions?

When I click on a Word document in any of my document folders in order to open it, I get an error message: "There was a problem sending the command to the Program" and the document will not open. I get the same message if I right click on the document and select "Open with Word". How can I fix this?
