I need to send PDF files to a client, and normal page numbers are not enough for tracking. Each page should include a custom prefix or suffix, such as a case code or project ID, while keeping the document content untouched.

Yes, you can add prefix and suffix page numbering to client PDF files when you need a clear tracking pattern across contracts, reports , invoices, case papers or approval documents. A format like CLIENT-001-A, CASE-2026-001 or INV-001-FINAL makes each page easier to identify during review or sharing.

Client File References Should Stay Consistent
Decide the prefix, suffix, starting number, and digit length before processing. Keep the same format across the full PDF set so the document trail does not look mixed.

Protect the Original Client Copy
Work on a duplicate file and place the number away from signatures, stamps, footer notes, and important remarks.

My Practical Choice
I would suggest PDF Champ PDF Bates Numbering because this trusted offline tool feels suitable when client PDF page numbering needs privacy and controlled formatting.

Review a small output sample before sending the numbered PDF to the client.
