    Hello all members,

The "Mark Solved" option has been activated in the Computer Trouble-Shooting Discussion Board. Now originating posters (OPs) can select their own "Best Answer."

    How it works:

Each member response to an originating poster's issue will now include a "Mark Solved" button that can only be seen by the OP (see image1). If a specific response solves the OPs issue, he/she can simply click the Mark Solved button for that specific response and it will automatically do two things:

    1. It will update the index to show the OPs issue as "Answered." (see image2)
    2. It will add the "Best Answer" to the top of the OPs post. (see image3)

This new feature could really benefit members or guests that are looking for solutions while browsing or searching the Computer Trouble-Shooting Discussion Board.

Note: The Wise Specific Product Boards do not have this feature enabled.

Jameseurox reacted to Linkin in Should You Defrag an SSD?
Nowadays, more and more computers are using SSD, some computer users upgrade their HDD to SSD, which brings the question should we defrag an SSD?

Traditional spinning hard drives have a metric known as Access Time (or Seek Time, which is a slightly different measurement) that refers to the average amount of time it takes for the drive armature to physically reposition the heads so that they can begin reading data from a given sector of the disk (it may be more or less depending on how far the heads have to travel). It should be noted that this latency is measured in milliseconds (thosandths of a second) and is incurred every single time the heads have to be repositioned.

The whole purpose of defragmentation is to arrange the files in such a way as to make them more or less sequential, so that the heads do not have to be repositioned as much in order to read a file.

SSD's do not have heads that need to be moved, nor do they have spinning latency. As a result, the access time for every cell in the matrix is equal, and is measured in nanoseconds (billionths of a second). Even if a file is very heavily fragmented, the increased latency to read it is imperceptibly small. Defragging will not improve performance to a noticeable degree.

Also unlike traditional spinning hard drives, the individual cells in an SSD have a limited number of write cycles before they "wear out". SSDs employ a wear-leveling algorithm to spread out writes to extend the life of the drive. Relocating the same data to a different area of the flash cells waste those write cycles. In this case, defragging can actually reduce the lifespan of the drive.

So now our concern is what shall we do to increase the lifespan of SSD.

Below are the 5 most basic and effective ways to improve SSD’s lifespan.
    1. Disable prefetch parameters to increase SSD working life.
    2. Disable Superfetch parameters to increase working life of SSD.
    3. Disable defrag system drive on boot to increase working life of SSD.
    4. Disable auto defrag when idle to increase working life of SSD.
    5. Enable TRIM function to improve working performance of SSD.

These tweaks may sound a little bit hard for normal users. No biggie, you can make all these setting modifications with one single click. I am not bluffing. Just download Wise Care 365, you can see System Optimizer feature in System Tuneup section. If there is an SSD in your computer, there will be an item called SSD Optimization right below Network Speedup( Unfortunately my computer does not have one, so this item is not shown here). Single click ‘Optimize’, Wise Care 365 will make all the 5 changes I mentioned above along with other optimizing tweaks.

    Hi

I recently got a new PC and was getting it set up okay.I found a way to restore the Games folder on for Windows 10(using the shell:games) command in Run.

I made copied and my games executables, and then pasted the shortcuts in my newly created Games folder. Now,i did the same for some steam games and that seemed to work.

But then when i asked Steam create a desktop shortcut for a game, and placed it in my Games folder i get a shorcut with no image attached to it.And i can't right click on it to get any options. And more importantly i can't delete this shorcut from my Games folder.

    I looked into shell:appsfolder,but i can't see the Steam dektop shortcut(3rd paragraph)there.

Does anyone know how i can delete this Steam desktop shortcut form my Games folder?.

    Thanks in advance.

YouTube only allows users to watch and view videos on their website. Many users want to download their favorite videos to their computer so they can watch them without being connected to the Internet or so they can watch them on other devices. Below are the steps required for downloading and watching YouTube videos on your computer for free.

Go to http://www.wisevideosuite.com to download Wise Video Downloader.

Open any YouTube video page and copy the URL of the video you want to download.

Once this address has been copied, paste that URL into the URL bar and click the Download button.

Of course if you want to play the videos downloaded in multiple devices like your PC, your pad or smart phone. You are gonna need to convert them into different formats that is playable on these devices. Then the Convert feature comes in handy. It is a link to Wise Video Converter, which you can also download from http://www.wisevideosuite.com. The best thing about this converter is you don’t have to choose which format you need to convert into. Just drag and drop the video files to the corresponding big icons of devices, and then click Convert.

Notice: Not all the videos can be downloaded by Wise Video Downloader. Statistics show that more than 80% of the video files can be downloaded by this software. Please keep this software updated. By default, Wise Video Downloader will download the 1280*720 pixel video.

Jameseurox reacted to donut in How to Fix Low Disk Space in Windows XP?
Windows XP alerts you when disk space reaches a critical level, but you have several options to free up hard drive space. XP includes an built-in utility, called Disk Cleanup, that deletes unnecessary files from the most common locations. More disk space can be gained by deleting files manually or moving them to an external hard drive.

    Low Disk Space Warning

    ·         Windows XP warns you when it detects your computer is running out of disk space. The first warning comes when less than 200 megabytes of space is available: a pop-up window will appear for ten seconds once every session (each time you log on to your computer). The warnings become more frequent as free space decreases. With less than 80 megabytes of free space the warning appears twice for 30 seconds, spaced four hours apart. At 50 megabytes or less, the message appears every five minutes for 30 seconds. The warnings do not stop until free disk space is above 200 megabytes.

    Disk Cleanup

    ·         The easiest way to free up hard drive space in Windows XP is to use Disk Cleanup. The program deletes temporary Internet files from Internet Explorer, downloaded program files, optional Windows components, Windows temporary files and older System Restore points. You can select check boxes to choose which categories to delete. If Disk Cleanup does not free up enough space, it may be necessary to delete files manually.

    Unnecessary Files

    ·         Remove files and application you do not use to free up disk space. Empty the Recycle Bin and clean out the cache of your Web browser. Review the applications installed on your PC. Those applications you do not use should be uninstalled using the “Add/Remove Programs” function located in the Windows Control Panel. Ensure that no duplicate files exist on your PC: remove any files that are duplicates.

    Folders

    ·         Your Downloads folder (or any location you use to store downloaded content) may be taking up a lot of disk space. Empty these folders of files that you no longer need or use. Pictures and videos also take up a lot of space: Delete those pictures and videos that you do not wish to keep. Using Windows Explorer, look around your hard drive for temporary installation folders and delete those as well. Once you complete the deletion process, be sure to empty your Recycle Bin to reclaim the space.

    External Storage

    ·         If there is no need to keep the files on your computer’s hard drive, consider using an external hard drive to store some of your content, especially larger files. External drives come in various capacities, some as large as the hard drive currently in your computer. These drives connect via USB, and when connected can be used as an additional hard drive for your PC.

Although I've had Wise Registry Cleaner on my computer for about 3 years, I never noticed the "1-click" icon setting. It is supposed to allow you to click it and WRC runs in the background. Only one problem: It doesn't work. Reason I know it isn't working is because after clicking it (and tried double-clicking it, too), I open WRC and run a deep scan. That scan finds lots of safe-go-delete items, which it shouldn't because the 1-click should have already cleaned them out.
