  1. I am unhappy that I don't seem to be able to effectively prevent the PC Check-up module from deleting my Recent Documents and Run commands. That said, it may be because I haven't looked in the right place. As you can see, I can't get a 10/10 because it has found 36 Recent Documents. In Image 2, you can see that I have deselected those items. In Image 3, they are selected but grayed out and can't be changed, as if they were selected from another menu that I have so far been unable to locate. While I am complaining, and I am actually VERY happy with this product, I was astonished that my Windows Defender kept turning itself on for no reason, until I realized that PC Check-up was doing that. I got that deselected when I finally figured it out. One would think that Wise Care 365 would look for the active Firewall, in my case Bitdefender 2014 Total Security. Running two firewalls is not recommended. Any assistance in being able to stop PC Check-up from erasing my Recent Documents and Run command list would be much appreciated. I was like most users and just clicked "Fix Now." Thank you and have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  2. It appears that you have downloaded Search Conduit. You can use the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, or the Wise Program Uninstaller, or adwcleaner (google it) to uninstall that program. It is listed as a PUP (potentially unwanted program) that gets bundled with some free downloads. So far as I am concerned, it is just plain malware. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  3. Sounds to me like you have inadvertently downloaded a program called Search Conduit. It comes bundled with my free programs. It is classified as adware/malware. You can use the Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, the Wise Program Uninstaller, and adwcleaner (google it) to remove the program. Reboot after the uninstall is complete and the error should disappear. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  4. Welcome to the forum. That could be a sign that your hard drive is dying. You should download and run the diagnostics program from the hard disk manufacturer and select the most comprehensive scan. You could also run: "chkdsk (drive letter) /r" from an elevated command prompt, which will locate, mark, and attempt to recover data from bad clusters. Hope that it turns out well for you. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  5. Sounds to me like you have some unwanted adware, specifically Search Conduit. Use the Wise Uninstaller to remove it or Adware Remover (adwremover - just google it). Remove the program and you should be good to go. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  6. Right on, Xilo! Forgot about that. I have never had much success with restore points, but certainly worth trying! Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  7. IE11 is not a program per se. It is a Windows Update. In the Control Panel, under Uninstall Programs, click on the tab for installed updates, locate IE11 and uninstall it that way. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  8. Fardun: It would seem that you have Search Conduit installed on your system. It is a PUP (potentially unwanted program) and gets bundled in downloads and takes over your computer. Download and run adwcleaner and junk removal tool (google them). Those should delete Search Conduit and any other junk on your system. You can also try to locate "Search Conduit" via the Control Panel or the Wise Program Uninstaller (preferable) and uninstall it that way. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  9. Welcome to the WiseCare Forum. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your printer? Go to Devices and Printers, right click and uninstall it, then reboot and the printer should be detected and the correct drivers installed. If that doesn't work, then you might have damaged/deleted more than just the drivers for your printer. If you have actually compromised your Windows install, then go to an elevated command prompt, and type: sfc /scannow and wait for it to finish. It will fix corrupt Windows files if it can. If not, you would be best advised to try a Windows Repair, but let's take this one step at a time. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  10. Have you tried running "sfc /scannow" from an elevated command prompt? It will check for, and attempt to repair, corrupted system files, as well as producing a log file that you can examine. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  11. It usually does disappear, even if "Show Icons and Notications" are checked off under "Customize" when there is no USB device connected. It will reappear when you connect a USB device, at least that has been my experience. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  12. Some laptops with dual display require specialized drivers from the manufacturer of your laptop. I would not recommend letting Windows update your video drivers. Go to the laptop manufacturers website and download only the drivers specifically designed for your model of laptop. I have serviced two laptops in the last six weeks that had video issues, which I managed to resolve by installing the specific and appropriate drivers. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  13. Hello Crystalboi: I am suspicious that the one item not removed is related to your antivirus solution. Most a/v software has "tamper detection" or "self-defence" that does not permit some core files to be tampered with. I use BitDefender Total Security and there are always 11 files not fixed after a registry scan. I would not be concerned about it, personally. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  14. Calbrax: Is there any chance that you recently updated iTunes on your computer? If so, that is the likely culprit because the uninstaller for the version being upgraded doesn't function properly. The Apple Forums are full of reports of this issue. If iTunes is responsible, you will have to uninstall all of your Apple applications and then reinstall them. The file is not really missing, but the Apple upgrade messed up its registration. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  15. Welcome to the Wise Care Forum, Michael J. You might want to check out this link for information on this error: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/windows-update-error-800b0001#1TC=windows-7 Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  16. Dino: If you are getting a message about MSVCR80.DLL missing or another one (can't remember the name), it may be that you have recently updated iTunes. The Apple Forums are full of reports of this error. It took me five hours to fix the problem on my wife's computer. To resolve the problem, I had to uninstall all Apple apps from her computer and reinstall them. By the way, this is an Apple problem. The "missing" .dll is not missing, it just can't be found because the Apple uninstaller for the current version fouls things up. It deregisters the Apple Mobile Support App, and then tries to stop it, which of course it can no longer access, causing the uninstall of the current version to go south. If this isn't your situation, then please provide details of the exact missing .dll message. We will try to help you out. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  17. Allistersmith: Welcome to the Wise Care Forum. Sounds to me like you are a victim of the latest iTunes update. Google the missing file "MSVCR80.DLL" and you will find hundreds of posts on the Apple Support Forums and elsewhere. I spent five hours fixing the problem on my wife's computer. Essentially, in the end, I had to aggressively uninstall every Apple app and then reinstall. There is an alleged order of just the uninstall of iTunes only components, but that did not work for me. Essentially it appears that the version of iTunes being updated has a defective uninstaller which deregisters the Apple Mobile Support App before stopping it, and then tries to stop it, which it can't because it is deregisterd and the whole mess goes south from there. The file in question, and the other one, are not missing in reality but Apple has mucked up your registry. Avoid the free .dll cleaners. The only solution is to uninstall and reinstall the defective Apple components. Good luck. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  18. Glad to be of assistance, BPB. UCanFixit, thank you for your kind words. I took a guess as to his problem based on my recent experience with my wife's computer. I was grateful for all of the helpful advice in the Apple Support Forums. We are all here to help each other. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  19. Hello BillyPennsbrother: Welcome to the Wise Care Forum. Sounds to me like you just upgraded your iTunes to the latest version. I spent five hours getting the problems created by the failed install solved. Essentially, you have to thoroughly remove all Apple software from your computer and then start reinstalling your Apple apps. If you google the missing file name (which is not missing by the way), you will see that the Apple Support Forums are full of complaints about this "malware" update. This is not a Windows problem. It appears that the iTunes uninstaller for the version being updated deregisters its Mobile App Support Service before stopping it and that causes huge problems. There is an uninstall order to be followed, which did not work for me. I wound having to uninstall and reinstall all Apple software on my wife's computer and now everything is working fine. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil

  21. I totally concur with UCanFixit's comments. Most of the posters' reports are far too brief and vague for anyone to be able to diagnose their issues with any degree of accuracy. I think that I did see comments a few weeks ago about enhancing WiseCare 1st Aid's problem reporting module to ensure that it collects more details. Seems like most of the very short and vague reports are coming from that app. Just my two cents. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  22. Try going to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced. At the bottom of the screen, there will be an option to reset IE to default options. That might help. Let us know. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  23. Cherub Angel: Glad you were able to rid your computer of search.conduit. I have a friend who has been infected twice by that piece of malware. Sounds like you are in good shape for the future. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  24. It sounds to me like you were "infected" by the search.conduit malware. It also sounds like you only partially uninstalled it, and so it continues to look for its missing parts. Google "search.conduit malware" and you will find instructions for removing it, if it is still showing as installed. If not, you would have to check if the WiseCare Program Uninstaller Utility can do a "forced uninstall." While I use WiseCare Pro 365 for computer maintenance, I purchased Revo Uninstaller Pro a few years ago precisely for its ability to root and uninstall programs that Windows Control Panel Uninstall could not get at because they were not showing as installed. As such, I have never downloaded the WiseCare Uninstaller for my home computers, so am not aware of its full capabilities, though I have used it for routine uninstalls on client computers, since it does scan for leftovers whereas the Windows Uninstaller does not. I have been very pleased with the WiseCare uninstaller. If I have violated Forum rules by mentioning a competitor's product, I apologize. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
  25. Sounds to me like your computer is infected with adware and malware. From what I have read here, WiseCare offers utilities to remove that rogue software. If you are comfortable, you could use the Windows Control Panel, or better yet the WiseCare utility, for removing the offending programs. They often install themselves with downloads of freeware. I just finished working on a client's computer that had eight different adware/malware programs, and that was after she had already removed some, but she couldn't get the rest out. Took an afternoon, but her computer is healthy now. Be VERY careful what you download and look for those check marks for programs/add-ons that you don't want, and uncheck them. Hope this helps. Have a great day. Regards, -Phil
