Courtjac
How to delete these 22 files with bad filenames? I tried different solutions suggested on the Web, but with no results : I tried FileExile, FileAssassin, DeleteDoctor; I also tried to delete short filenames in Dos. It happened when Avast detected a virus, put it in quarantine, but this virus had begun to do his bad job in the Firefox folder. Thanks for the help. april
If firefox was installed in others places of your PC except firefox.old? If not, please run Wise Program Uninstaller and see if you can find your uninstaller program listed here. Please try to delete ".old" of the "firefox.old" if your uninstaller is not listed in Wise Program Uninstaller. While if all the methods above do not work, just provide us the prompt message when you are trying to delete these bad files. Thank you for your cooperation. Courtjac
Finally I managed to destroy these bad filenames by using the WinHex software version 17.3. We have to manually change the illegal ASCII characters in the Master File Table (MFT). WinHex automatically finds in the partition the exact position where the illegal filenames are. Hoping it wil be useful for others who have the same problem.
