How to uninstall and re-install correctly

Completely uninstall Torch via the Windows uninstaller [please make sure all instances of Torch are closed before trying uninstall - see previous mentions in this troubleshooter] (select all options in the dialog pop-up). Note, this will remove all torrent files (not your already downloaded files and folders). However, if you used Torch with your Google log-in, when you log-in again, your bookmarks, history, etc. will return. If you used Torch as a guest, all data will be lost with the uninstall.

Reboot your Computer [This is Very important!]

When Computer reboots, direct your preferred browser to http://www.torchbrowser.com and click the download button. Torch will now reinstall.

How to Uninstall Torch

Torch may not uninstall properly if there are still instances running in the background. You can shut them down via the Windows Task Manager or, just to be 100% sure you can re-boot your computer, and then, without opening Torch, uninstall it normally via the Windows uninstaller. Simple uninstall instructions can be found in our knowledgebase as well.

Still can't uninstall - How to uninstall manually and clear the registry.

Some 3rd party software companies may include Torch browser as a bonus for their free software. Sometimes this is done without our knowledge and it may lead to faulty installations. For this reason we always recommend that you download Torch browser directly from our official web site at http://www.torchbrowser.com With that said, let's completely remove Torch browser from your computer, and then proceed with a clean installation.

Close Torch completely before proceeding

SECTION 1:

1. Open up Windows "Add or Remove Program" window.

Add or Remove Program

Stand on the Torch icon and do a Right Mouse Click and select Uninstall/Change

Press Uninstall

2. When the Uninstall pop-up window appears, check off both options and select your next preffered browser.

Uninstall Window

What to do if Torch will not uninstall this way?

3. Now let's clean the Windows registry. Simply go to the Windows Start button and type into the field "regedit". This will bring up a file called regedit.exe. Open this file to open up your Windows Registry editor.

4. The Registry editor will open and should look something like the below image.

We will only be concerned with the following directories in exactly this order.:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

5. Expand the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER then expand Software and scroll down to Torch. If not there, no problem, If there, just do a Mouse Right Click and Delete it.

6. Repeat step 5 for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Torch directory as well. When editing the registry, make sure that you only delete the Torch folders... NOTHING ELSE.

7. When expanding HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT you will not see a Software folder. Just scroll down until you see Torch or Torchtorrent or Torchflashplayer. If it's Torch, just Mouse Right Click and delete.

8. Close the Registry editor.

9. Reboot your computer

10. With any web browser Visit http://www.torchbrowser.com and click the Download Button to re-install Torch as a new user.

11. When installed, open Torch, select the Menu Button (top right) and sign in with your Google sign in.

SECTION 2:

What to do if Torch will not uninstall this way?

1. Open your Windows Start Button and type into the field "Show hidden files and folders". You will see this option appear at the top of the Start window. Click on it.

Show hidden files

Make sure that under Hidden files and folders the Don't show hidden files, folder, or drives is NOT checked

Make sure that the Hide extensions for known file types is NOT checked.

Click OK and close window.

2. Open your windows File Manager Windows file manager icon and go to C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local (replace "Your User Name" with the correct user name).

3. Scroll down the list to see if you have a folder called Torch. If so, click on it to enter and look for the file Uninstall.exe - run this file. This should start the uninstall. Once uninstalled, return to your file manager and go back to C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local (replace "Your User Name" with the correct user name), Right click on Torch, and then Delete.

The Uninstall.exe file does not seem to do anything when you run it? No problem. This can be resolved by just ugprading Torch from http://www.torchbrowser.com Once installed, Stop here and return to SECTION 1 step 1 above. If Uninstall.exe did uninstall Torch correctly and you completed step 3 successfully, return to SECTION 1 Step 3.
