  1. Microsoft Windows divides temporary data into two categories: Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files. The "Temp" folder on the C drive contains new or modified files that an application is working with or have not been formally saved to the drive. Temporary Internet Files, on the other hand, are copies of websites you visit in Internet Explorer. IE automatically overwrites this data if it detects changes to a page, but Windows won't erase the data from the "Temp" folder unless Task Scheduler is set up to run Disk Cleanup at a scheduled interval. To keep your temporary files for recovery purposes, instruct IE to stop clearing the cache or change how often Task Scheduler runs Disk Cleanup. Instructions Temporary Files o 1 Press "Windows-Q" to open Apps, type "taskschd.msc" into the search field and then press "Enter" to open Task Scheduler. o 2 Select from the list of active tasks the task you want to change -- you can locate the appropriate task by name via the Task Name field -- and then choose "Properties" from the Actions pane. o 3 Select the "Triggers" tab and then click the "Edit" button to open the Edit Triggers window. o 4 Choose from the options how often you want the task to run -- "Daily," "Weekly" or "Monthly" -- and then choose the appropriate months or days. For example, to prevent Disk Cleanup from running the current month, click "Months" and then clear the box next to the applicable item. o 5 Click "OK" to close each window and apply your changes. Temporary Internet Files o 6 Open Internet Explorer, press "Alt-X" to open the Tools menu and then click "Internet Options." o 7 Click "Settings" under Browsing History on the General tab to open the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box. o 8 Change "Check for Newer Versions of Stored Pages" to "Never" and then click "OK" to close each window and apply your changes.
