RidgeViz reacted to Linkin in How to recover deleted files?
Lost files can usually be recovered—if you discover the loss soon enough. But every time you write to the hard drive, you lower the likelihood of a successful recovery. So use that computer as little as possible when you want to recover lost files unless you’ve given up hope.

Try these solutions, in this order:

    Use Wise Jet Search

There is a little chance that you placed the lost file somewhere else, but you are not sure where. In that case you will have to search the whole computer. With Wise Jet Search you can find any file in your computer unless the file is hidden or in the Recycle Bin. Users can also choose the file type or type in the keywords to narrow down the search. If you can’t find, read on.

    Check the Recycle Bin

Windows stores “deleted” files here as a safety measure. You’ll find the icon in the upper-left corner of your screen. if you find the files there, select them, right-click them, and choose Restore.

    Use your backup

If you back up your hard drive—or at least your libraries—on a regular basis, your files are probably preserved there. I don’t know which backup program you use, so I can’t tell you exactly how to search for and recover the files. It’s generally a pretty intuitive process.

And if you don’t back up, maybe it’s time to get into the habit. It won’t help you this time, but it could the next.

    Try file recovery software

Even a file that’s no longer in the Recycle Bin may still exist. Windows doesn’t overwrite the actual ones and zeros until another file needs the drive space. That’s why I told you to avoid using the PC as much as possible.

There are several good file recovery programs available. I recommend Wise Data Recovery. It’s easy to use and has a recoverability analysis feature showing users how likely they are going to recover the deleted or lost file.

And  it also has a portable version, which means that you don’t have to install it, you can use it on your PC without writing to the hard drive. Download the program on another computer, and unzip it to a folder on a flash drive. Then plug the flash drive into the PC with the missing files, and run it from there.

    Hire a professional (last resort)

This is the last resort, if none of the above suggestions work. There are many data recovery services available, and since your drive is still working, you probably don’t need one of the more expensive ones.

I have now gone back down and installed Maxthon Cloud 4.9.3.1000.

The verdict?  It appears that that fixed the problems.   So, I guess there IS some bug with the newer Maxthon version 4.9.4.2000 that is causing the problems in question.  Right now it's getting late.  I'll have to wait until tomorrow to post up the issue on the Maxthon forum.

click on start, the programs, then accessories, then system tools, then disk clean up. and wait for it to come up, then check everything and hit clean up and it'll delete a lot of temp files and stuff you dont need. Try that. Then go back to that folder and do the defrag. Takes a few hours.

To ensure that your PC is free from errors, it is important for you to maintain a healthy registry. It is also a good idea to make regular registry backups with Wise Care 365 to ensure that if there is problem in the registry, you can restore it from a backup taken earlier. You must always back up your registry before:

    1. Making any major system or network configuration changes on your PC.
    2. Installing or uninstalling a large application.
    3. Performing direct registry edit using Registry Editor (regedit).
    4. Scanning and repairing the registry using a registry cleaner.

I don't know if it's just on my side, but I've been noticing some problems with the functionality of the forums.

    (1) If I try to post a reply in a thread via the "Reply to this topic" box at the bottom of the thread ... nothing happens. The reply doesn't remotely attempt to get posted. I end up having to use the Black "Reply to this topic" BUTTON at the upper right of the page.

    (2) The next issue: Well, I was planning on attaching a screen capture image to show the problem that I'm encountering, but the problem is that I'm not being allowed to attach an image because the problem IS right at that area. So, I'll try to explain the problem.

Right there at the "Attach Files" area at the bottom left of the reply box ... where the "Choose Files" BUTTON is --- some other text that appears to read "uldn't load plug" is being superimposed on the Choose Files BUTTON. This is rendering the Choose Files BUTTON non-functional.

In case it helps zero in on the problem --- I am using Windows XP Pro SP3. I am using the latest version of avast Free Anti-Virus. I am using NetZero Dial Up Internet.

Ooooooo!  Heyyy!  BAMM!  Bingo!  Good call, Xilolee.

That was the problem.  I am now typing this reply from my secondary / backup browser --- Opera 36.0.2130.65 and the problems have been neutralized.  Cuz actually, there was even a third issue I hadn't even mentioned, but it's now been fixed as well with the use of Opera.  That third symptom was that the Attributes Bar wouldn't even display.  So when you mentioned trying that button above the BOLD button, I immediately went, "What BOLD button?  I can't even get the Attributes Bar to display anymore."

Anyway, my normal browser is Maxthon Cloud 4.9.4.2000.  That is the browser with which I was getting those 3 problems.  It's possible that the culprit is THAT specific version of Maxthon, its latest.  I say this because I know I didn't used to experience those problems before and that's probably because before, I used to use the 4.9.3.1000 version of Maxthon Cloud.

A bit later and into the evening, let me experiment by going back to that 4.9.3.1000 version of Maxthon and see if that fixes the problems Maxthon wise.  If that gets things working back to normal, I guess I'll then go to the Maxthon forums and inform them of the incompatibility issues or just plain ole BUG.

I'll let you know the verdict sometime later, Xilolee.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

It seems QIHOO 360 Internet Security now (it was "now" in 2015) "gets a new name – 360 Total Security Essential".
Usually the "internet security" suites are antivirus + firewall.
It seems the firewall used by QIHOO is the one provided by GlassWire.
Therefore: maybe are you using two firewalls? (QIHOO's and microsoft's)
Try to disable temporarily qihoo, just five minutes, and try to navigate (on safe websites, obviously you shouldn't navigate on unsafe ones).
    Are you using windows 7? 8? 8.1? 10? x64 or x86?

Yeah, alexbach I would suggest you change the DNS settings and for this follow these simple steps:
    1. At first, open command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.
    2. Then, you'll get the message that the DNS was flushed now close the program and check for the problem.
