AppeptGause reacted to wisecleaner_admin in How to downgrade from Windows 10 to an older version
How to Recover Windows 10 to Windows 7/8.1

Microsoft has launched Windows 10 worldwide on 29 July, 2015 and will provide a free upgrade for existing Windows users. If you are running a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC, you possibly already start to experience the new operating system. As we know up to now, Windows 10 has a good compatibility with most of popular applications, but not all. Although you may easily tend to be tempted by the free logic, we’d like to remind some users not to hurry up for the upgrading.
    1. Game player. It takes time for all game vendors to adjust their products to realize smoothly running under the new operating system.
    2. Some business software like digital sculpting, inventory, accounting software and the programming software not from Microsoft. It’s recommended to consult the vendors before upgrading.
    3. If your PC is running on previous versions of Windows (XP or Vista), which always means outdated hardware, it won’t work properly on Windows 10. You may fail during upgrading process or couldn’t booting your PC after that.

For those users having finished the upgrading, if you find you’d like to return the old version which you are used to, you could follow the following steps.
    1. Click "Action Center" on the right-down corner of Windows 10 desktop to get the pop-up.

    2. Then click "All settings" to get the System Setting menu. Choose the last item "Update & security"

    3. Refer to the diagram. Choose "Recovery"

    4. From the right column to find "Go back to Windows 7"
    5. Click "Get started" to get the pop-up. Choose one of reasons and click next step

    6. Click next step.

    7. Last reminding. Click next step

    8. Click "Go back to Windows 7" to start the system recovery.

    9. The recover process is taking about 20 minutes.

    Notes:
    1. You need to have the folders named $Windows~BT and Windows.old under the system drive to finish the "Go back"

    2. Some Cleaning up software may delete $Windows~BT folder to cause the fail of the system recovery. (WiseCleaner won't clean these two folders.)
If you possibly recover the old edition of Windows, please don’t forget to copy above two folders after you upgrade to Windows 10.

AppeptGause reacted to Linkin in How to Deal with Your File History Backup Drive Is Out Of Space In Windows 8&8.1
In this tutorial, I will show you how to change your Windows 8&8.1 File History settings so it does not consume available backup space as quickly as it did before.

File History is a great tool which is included in all Windows 8 builds. With this tool you can easily automate the backup of your data. However, one of the things that most of Windows 8 & 8.1 users face with this tool is when they run out of space which is used to make backup. This tutorial will show you how to clean up versions of your old backup files and improve the way your Windows 8 File History works, so it does not consume available backup space as quickly as it did before.

To get started follow the steps here.

Step 1: Open Control Panel---> All control Panel Items--->File History

Step 2: When File History window opens up, from left menu click on Advanced settings.

Step 3: Under Versions section click on Clean up versions link.

Step 4: The File History Cleanup window will open up asking you to select the criteria based on which you want to delete older versions of files and folders. Click on drop down menu and then select All but the latest one.

Step 5: Once you have selected the desired criteria click on Clean up button. This cleaning process will last for some time, so be patient.

Step 6: Once its finished click OK.

Step 7: Now in order to improve File History Settings, go back to File History window we opened in Step 1 and then under Keep saved versions drop down menu select a low time interval and see how it goes. Perform this change every few weeks or months and see which time interval works the best.

    Dear users,

We have just released a new product: Wise System Monitor Beta, a free and functional system monitoring tool.

As we all know, Once system resources reach full capacities, or the hardware components get too hot, full functionality cannot be guaranteed. It is more than necessary to monitor the real time system and hardware condition of our PC.

Wise System Monitor Beta offers you a simple way to achieve that. It enables you to monitor memory usage, CPU usage, all the processes running and main hardware component info of your PC. Since you know what is consuming your RAM and CPU, which part of your PC is overheated, you can deal with them accordingly to ensure your computer functionality. Click here for direct download: http://downloads.wisecleaner.com/soft/WSMSetup.exe

However, there is still space for improvement for this beta version, please leave a comment or write down the bugs you found below. We would really appreciate that. Thank you!

AppeptGause reacted to Config in Tips! How To Fix the 404 Not Found Error:
How to Recover Deleted Files in Windows For Free? Check this video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gP6AYQ1rOM
Retry the web page by pressing F5, clicking the refresh/reload button, or trying the URL from the address bar again. The 404 Not Found error might appear for several reasons even though no real issue exists, so sometimes a simple refresh will often load the page you were looking for.
Check for errors in the URL. Often times the 404 Not Found error appears because the URL was typed wrong or the link that was clicked on points to the wrong URL.
Move up one directory level at a time in the URL until you find something.

For example, if www.web.com/a/b/c.htm gave you the 404 Not Found error, move up to www.web.com/a/b/. If you get nothing here (or an error), move up to www.web.com/a/. This should lead you toward what you're looking for or at least confirm that it's no longer available.

Tip: If you have moved all the way up to the website's homepage, try to run a search for the information you're looking for. If the site doesn't have a search function, try navigating to the page you want using category links to dig deeper into the site.
Search for the page at a popular search engine. It's possible that you simply have the entirely wrong URL in which case a quick Google or Bing search should get you where you want to go.

If you do find the page you were after, update your bookmark or favorite to avoid the HTTP 404 error in the future.
Clear your browser's cache if you have any indication that the 404 Not Found message might just be yours. For example, if you can reach the URL from your phone but not from your tablet, clearing the cache on your tablet's browser might help.

You might also consider clearing your browser's cookies, or at least the one(s) involved with the website in question, if clearing the cache didn't work.
Change the DNS servers used by your computer but usually only if an entire website is giving you a 404 error, especially if the website is available to those on other networks (e.g. your mobile phone network or a friend in another city).

404's on an entire website isn't particularly common unless your ISP or government filters/censors websites. No matter the reason, if it does happen, giving another set of DNS servers a try is a good step to take.
Finally, if all else fails, contact the website directly. If they've removed the page you're after then the 404 error is completely legitimate and they should be able to tell you that. If they've moved the page, and are generating 404's instead of redirecting visitors to the new page, they might be very happy to hear from you.

A WHOIS search, using the site's domain name (e.g. weather.com) as your search term, should give you some contact information.

If the WHOIS search isn't helpful, know that many sites can be reached via email at [email protected], replacing website.com with the real website name. Contacting a site via one of their social networking profiles is another good idea.

AppeptGause reacted to Linkin in How to Deal with an Used & Old Computer?
How to Recover Deleted Files in Windows For Free? Check this video

Everyone wants the latest and the fastest, so at the end of it you get stuck with something old, used and slow by today's standards. No, we weren't talking about your wife/husband, we were talking about your computer.

So, what do you do with an old computer that you think is slow? Dump it into a garbage can or stow it off on eBay? Nah, here are some creative uses for an old computer.

    1. Store your Photos & Music on it
Use it like a Photo and Music server. As long as you have plenty of hard disk space you won't hit a problem. Dump all your music CDs on it if you want. Connect it a flat screen and play a slide show of your photos.

    2.  Convert it into a Browsing Station
Plug in your Internet connection, or a network cable via your broadband and you can make that old slow computer into a Internet browsing station for yourself and your friends when they come home. As an added benefit you can restrict the Internet access of the old computer as much as you want with some Firewall/Internet Security software and give it your kids to browse from.

    3. Make it a file/storage server
Put in Linux and convert the old PC into a full functional file/storage server that you can dump in the attic or garage. If you are short of disk space just get a bigger hard-disk.

    4. Use it like a computer lab
Need to try out Linux or some obscure software, why not use your old computer for it? You can use it learn hard disk recovery skills or open it up and do some good old hardware surgery.

    5. Put it your car, RV or boat
Now, that's a good idea. All you need is a power inverter, a device that converts 12V to 120V power. So, you can listen to music from the hard-disk or play VCD/DVDs while you are riding in a car, RV or a boat. Of course, if you are going to watch stuff instead of listening you will need a small LCD display as well.

    6. Convert your old PC into a router or firewall
Load up Linux with Shorewall/IPtables or just install IPCOP to convert that old piece of hardware into a very powerful router or firewall. This by far is one of the best recommendations I always give to friends who run small offices. No old computer is slow enough for Linux or to work like a router/firewall.

    7. Broadcast Music/Videos or monitor your house with it
Why not setup a Shoutcast server and stream all your MP3 files to the world? or stream videos or a webcam feed, which you can watch from anywhere.
You can also connect a inexpensive webcam and place it near any place you want to monitor, throw in a internet connection at the back and you have your own personal security monitoring station. Keep a watch from anywhere.

    8. Watch TV or make it into a Tivo/VCR
Drop in a TV tuner card and you can watch TV with your computer and do neat stuff like Time Shifting. Or if install MythTV or FreeVo to make it into a fully functional Tivo/VCR and record TV programs.

    9. Make it into a Gaming Machine
Okay, it may not run all the very latest stuff but it will still be powerful enough to play some of the best games. You can load all your favorite games you have played on it or load some arcade games like Pacman and make it into a gaming station for yourself or for guests. Get a  pair of joysticks or gamepads as well to complete the experience.

    10. Upgrade it
Instead of trashing it, why not upgrade it? Of course, that idea may not apply to some of the very classic stuff like the 386 machines, but you can upgrade most of them in some or the other way to make them more powerful - some new memory, hard disk or even a new video card could make quite a lot of difference.

    11. Use it for Salvage
Sometimes you can use stuff from your old computer to replace things in your new computer or some other computer of an emergency aid, stuff like additional memories or a power supply.

    12. Use it to vent your anger
This is a dangerous thing but what the heck if you want to vent your anger for all those crashed Windows sessions, you old PC could be the perfect guinea pig.

    13. Automate your home with it or make it your answering machine
Connect it with X10 to automate your home and your old PC is capable enough to switch on heaters and lights or keep a watch on intruders.
Or just load up and answering machine software and let it handle voice mail for you. Why do you need to pay for a voice mail service when your PC can do it for free?

    14. Exchange it
If you don't want to do anything with your old computer, you can still get a good deal by exchanging it instead of trashing it or selling it on eBay. Companies like HP and IBM have such computer exchange programs, often referred to as trade-in programs.

    15. Donate it
Lastly, you can always get some goodwill by donating it away to someone in need. It can be anyone you know - your relatives, kids or  someone else like a school.

Windows Search  in Windows 7 is turned on by default. If you are using other third party tools instead or you want to disable it because of security reasons, you can follow this tutorial.

Before you actually read it, I have to warn you, if you disable Windows 7 search, you will see:

    1. All the search boxes in Windows will disappear, including the search boxes in Windows Explorer, the Start menu, Control Panel, the Documents library, and other libraries.
    2. Programs that rely on Windows Search might not function properly.
    3. Internet Explorer won't have enhanced search capabilities.
    4. Windows Media Center won't have enhanced search capability.
    5. You'll no longer be able to arrange your library views by metadata, and your column headers will only sort items, not stack or group them.
    6. Options that affect Windows Search functionality will be removed, including indexing in Control Panel and the Search tab in Folder Options.
    7. Windows will no longer recognize these search-based file types: search-ms, searchconnector-ms, and osdx.

Step 3: Now from bottom right corner of your screen click on Change PC Settings.

Step 4: Select Lock screen tab.

Step 5: Click Browse button and then locate your new image which you want to use for your Lock Screen background and click Open.

Step 6: If you wish to select a default or previously used image simply press on one of offered thumbnails located right above Browse button.

If you just want to turn off the lock screen, one little tweak will do that, follow the next steps.

Step 1: Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type gpedit.msc and press Enter. It'll open Group Policy Editor.

If your Windows 8.1 does not have Group Policy Editor, you can use the Registry Editor.

    1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.

How to Recover Deleted Files in Windows For Free? Check this video

Most computer users know that we should click the safe removal icon before we actually unplug the USB flash drive or external drive. Or else it will lead to data loss, corrupt USB drive, blah blah blah. But it is real convenient if we can just unplug it when we are done using it. In this tutorial, I will show you how to safely remove your USB drive just by unplugging it.

Note: For some computer this option may be enabled by default, so you can follow this tutorial to find out if it is enabled or not.

    Here is how:

Step 1: Plugin your USB flash drive or external drive into your desktop or laptop computer, then search for device manager

Step 2: Press Enter on your keyboard and Device Manager window will open

Step 3: Expand Disk Drive tree and locate your external removable drive. On my computer for example its called Multiple Card Reader USB Device.

Step 4: Right mouse click on that removable drive and from context menu choose Properties

Step 5: Now choose Policies tab

Step 6: In this new window you should have two options

    1. Quick Removal (Default)

    2. Better Performance

Step 7: If first option Quick Removal is selected you don’t have to make any additional changes and simply close the window. Otherwise if it’t now selected, do so and then click OK to save changes.

Next time simply unplug your external USB drive ir hard drive without any worries that you may damage him or its data.

Reminder: If you do prefer a better transfer speed, you should choose Better Performance, and defrag the hard drive of your computer and external hard drive more often with Wise Care 365. But don’t defrag your USB flash stick because it will decrease its lifespan. Of course, with Better Performance selected, you should click safe removal icon and then unplug the USB drive.

How to Recover Deleted Files in Windows For Free? Check this video

Speed up a computer: Optimization software
Another  reason your PC has slowed up is likely to be related to wear and tear. If you've used your PC for a long time it's likely that the storage is pretty full with files, photos and videos. You may also have installed a lot of programs that all run at the same time causing your processor to struggle.

As a basic piece of housekeeping it makes sense to delete anything you don't want to keep. And by going to add/remove programs in your Control Panel you should remove and programs you no longer use - software is a resource hog that can really slow down your PC or laptop.One other way of squeezing out speed from your PC is to defragment the hard drives. If you have a spinning hard disk rather than an SSD, even after you have deleted files the remaining data will be stored all over the disk. the theory is that your PC will have to work harder to access such scattered files, so defragmenting them (or defragging) will lead to a speed bump. I have to say in my experience I have never noticed much improvement from defragging, but if you have just removed a load of programs it is a good thing to do.

If all of this is sounding a bit too technical, fear not. There are plenty of easy to use free tools that will help with these PC housekeeping tasks. One of the best is Wise Care 365, all the work above can be done by several clicks.

Ultimately, if your problem is software related and you have used your PC for a long while, the only option may be to reinstall Windows. That is, however, a very serious move to make and should be only a last resort.

Speed up a computer: hardware upgrades
After software the most important factors in the speed of a PC are memory, the processor and then storage.
Number one: do you have enough RAM? You can really never have too much memory, although older 32-bit PCs and laptops can usefully use only 3.2GB RAM. Installing a new processor is difficult, but not impossible. It's also likely to be expensive (and you reach the point where a new PC or laptop may be a better idea). But it is possible.

A more simple upgrade is to install an SSD into your PC or laptop - if you don't have one already. Solid-state storage is much quicker than a traditional spinning HDD or hard drive. And if your Windows operating system is installed on an SSD you'll find that your whole PC works faster.

Finally, another hardware upgrade is to improve your graphics card. This can be expensive, but is effective if you want to enjoy faster gaming or better quality HD video.
